Once upon a time…

Honesty is best policy..

Long long time ago, there lived a woodcutter, Gopal, who lived a very simple life. He was very poor but he was a good man and worked hard everyday to make a living for his family. He would chop wood and sell it at the market. One day while chopping down a branch, near the banks of a pond, Gopal’s axe accidentally slipped from his hands and fell into the pond. He tried searching for his axe in the pond, but all in vain. It was as though it had disappeared in the pond!

He sat down by the bank and started crying out loudly as that was his only way to earn some money for his family

Upon hearing his cries, a water angel appeared and promised to help him find his axe. She vanished into the water and returned with an axe completely made of gold. She asked Gopal if that was his Axe? But Gopal replied that the golden axe wasn’t his axe and refused to accept it as his. The angel vanished again and returned with a silver axe. Again Gopal refused that it was his axe and he did not accept the silver axe as his. He also told the angel his axe had a wooden handle. The angel went into the water again, this time returning with an axe made of wooden handle. Gopal was thrilled and relieved to see his axe finally! He accepted his axe graciously and thanked the angel for helping him. The angel was very pleased with Gopal for his simplicity and honesty and decided to give him all the 3 axes! Golden, Silver and Gopal’s own wooden axe too!

Gopal could not believe his good fortune! He thanked the generous angel for the gifts and happily went home and lived happily ever after.
