The Snake and the poor farmer

Once upon a time, a farmer was tired of toiling everyday in his field as the field was not fertile and full of stones, he was not able to grow much food. One day he noticed in the middle of the field a hole and a snake was sitting near this big hole. He realized that this snake was hungry and he thought that he should pay respect to the snake. So he got a bowl of milk and offered it to the snake and left. Next day when he returned to fetch his bowl, he found a gold coin in the bowl. The farmer was thrilled and grateful and now daily he offered milk to the snake and daily the snake gave him a priceless gem. One day, the farmer had to travel out of his village to attend a wedding ceremony, so he instructed his son to offer milk to the snake and the snake put a gem as usual in the bowl. When the son saw this he thought the there must be lots of gems hidden somewhere close and he decided to kill the snake to get to the precious gems. Next day when the snake came to drink the milk the son had got a huge stick and he hit the snake with it. The snake was injured badly and he bit the son so hard that the son died instantly. The dead son was taken by the family and buried nearby. When the farmer returned from his trip, he heard about the death of his son and was greatly saddened by the news but he also understood that his son may have tried to harm the snake in his greed for more precious gems! as the snake never harmed him in the past.

The farmer went next day with the bowl of milk and apologized to the snake. But snake refused to accept the friendship once again and become vulnerable again as his body was badly injured from the incident.
